The American Section has spent the week learning about Remembrance Day (UK)/Veterans’ Day (US). We learned about why many people use poppies to commemorate soldiers who died beginning just after WWI. After reading a short text and doing a word search, we analyzed the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae (1915) and a response to his poem by Moira Michael, We Shall Keep the Faith. The students then used egg cartons to make poppies and cut out hand prints and leaves to make a commemorative wreath. Each student wrote a reason to remember those who served on their hand print.
