“Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou

To continue our work on poetry this year, the 6th graders in the American Section read “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. After analyzing the structure of the poem and highlighting rhyming words, they then looked for examples of figurative language in the poem. In 6th grade, the students learn about metaphor and simile (la métaphore et la comparaison), as well as hyperbole and personification. The photo above shows some of our students’ work illustrating an example of the figure of speech from Angelou’s famous poem.
